BAHAMAS WAHOO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Treasure Cay Hotel Resort and Marina will host the fourth leg of the Bahamas Wahoo
Championship from 20th-23rd January 1999. This championship, in its second year,
is a series of four wahoo tournaments designed to foster a competitive angling atmosphere
in pursuit of a species of fish which is not endangered and cannot be harvested commercially.
This is the first time the wahoo championship will come to Treasure Cay.
World-renowned as a hot spot for fishing, the Treasure Cay area offers an abundance
of large gamefish, including wahoo, which are also prevalent during the winter. A
134 lb wahoo was caught off Treasure Cay a few years ago by John Ward aboard the
Sun Dancer.
The entry fee for the Treasure Cay leg of the championship is $900 for boats registered
for the Bahamas Wahoo Championship ($1,000 for non-registered boats), which includes
a nightly cocktail party, three dinners, souvenirs, awards and more. Anglers can
register for the Treasure Cay leg by contacting Treasure Cay Services Inc at 1-800-327-1584
or 954-525-7711. For information about the overall series, contact the Bahamas Out-Islands
Promotion Board at 1-800-688-4752.
The 1,500 acre Treasure Cay Resort and Marina offers a well-protected 150 slip full-service
marina, a magnificent 3.5 mile sandy beach, an 18 hole championship golf course,
newly-renovated marina-front rooms and suites, luxurious beach-front villas, pool
and restaurant. For more details, visit the web site at treasurecay.com.
