Wynsome Ferguson

A follow up meeting was held on 30th July to discuss the outcome of Regatta Time in Abaco 2003. The event was an overall success with 69 boats participating, attracting some 1,200 plus people to Abaco. Ruth Saunders was returned unanimously as coordinator of this event. The Abaco Tourist Office will continue to have representation on this committee with Wynsome Ferguson as the coordinator in this regard. The date for next year’s Regatta is 2nd - 10th July 2004.

The Abaco Tourist Office, in conjunction with local government and corporate citizens, has joined forces to develop a permanent site for Goombay Summer festival. The site, Goombay Park, adjoins the new Port of Marsh Harbour. The first phase of 11 stalls is near completion and will be ready for the opening of Goombay Summer on 15th August. In the second phase there will be additional stalls, a permanent stage and other infrastructure.

Simply the Best is the theme for the 7th annual All Abaco Regatta to be held 25th -27th September. The announcement of the theme was made at a press conference held at Mackerel’s Restaurant by Jackson McIntosh, chairman of the regatta committee. It was also announced by the chairman that the Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture, Hon Neville Wisdom, agreed that his ministry and the Ministry of Tourism would promote the regatta as a sports tourism event. On 9th August the committee held a Calypso Cruise on the MV Legacy featuring Bahamian entertainers KB and Terez Hepburn.
