GORDON BENJAMIN LOWE
Funeral services for Gordon Benjamin Lowe, 53, were held at Epworth Methodist Chapel, Cherokee Sound, on 2nd August. Officiating was Rev Carla Culmer, assisted by Pastor Daniel Sawyer. Interment was made in the Public Cemetery, Cherokee Sound.
He is survived by his wife, Flora; adopted mother, Modina Hepburn; two sisters, Mavis and Carolyn; three brothers, Bernard, Brady and Noel; eight sisters in law; four brothers in law; eleven nephews; nine nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
ANTON MONTREL EDGECOMBE
Funeral services for Anton Montrel Edgecombe, 19, were held at Church of God Cathedral, Coopers Town, on 9th August. Officiating was Bishop Archilus Cooper and interment followed in Coopers Town Cemetery.
Left to mourn are his mother, Marilyn Edgecombe; stepfather, Garneth Edgecombe; father, Wendell Rolle Sr; stepmother, Lapage Rolle; grandparents, Walter and Alene McIntosh, and Ronald and Maggie Rolle; great-grandparents Marie McIntosh Erskin and Ruth Wells; brothers, Algerio, Garvin, Mandell, Wendell Jr and Wenton; sisters, Vanessa and Wendina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
FANE SOLOMON
Fane Solomon, CMG, died at his residence at Treasure Cay on 11th August. He was 85.
Mr Solomon was born in Nassau on 16th June 1918 to Cyril Solomon and Edith Solomon (Maclure). He was educated at Carnleigh School in Surrey, England. He returned from school in England, leaving again in 1940 to join the Royal Air Force following the outbreak of World War II.
On completion of his training in England he served as air gunner and wireless operator in 215 Bomber Squadron, flying operations in Wellington bombers out of England, the Middle East, India and Burma during the war.
After military service he returned home to Nassau to pursue a business career that started with the Pipe of Peace tobacco store on Bay Street. He later became interested in insurance and was a founding member of Nassau Underwriters and an underwriting member of Lloyds of London. In the course of his business life he served as president of Solomon Brothers Limited, was a Bahamas government assessor, and a director of Bahamas Electricity Corporation. Mr Solomon also served as master of the Royal Victoria Lodge and followed a lifetime interest in stamp collecting, remaining a Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society up to the time of his death.
He married Diane Solomon (Hoffman) in 1963 and has two surviving children of his marriage: his son Martin and his daughter Elizabeth. In 1999 he was awarded the Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in recognition of his contribution to the development of THe Bahamas. At Mr Solomons direction there will be no funeral or memorial service.
