BUD CAMFERDAMOur small community has been saddened by the death of one of our original residents, Bud Camferdam, 78, on August 16, 2003 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born Clarence Marion Camferdam Jr, he served in the US Air Force in WWII during which time he flew 34 missions over Germany as bombardier in a B17 Flying Fortress and was awarded the Air Medal with five Oakleaf Clusters. Bud's love of flying led to his passion for building and flying large radio controlled model airplanes. This hobby consumed much of his time during his working life and more so after his retirement.
For over 20 years Nan and Bud spent long months wintering in Treasure Cay. They enjoyed boating, golf and bridge. Bud could frequently be seen motoring about the village on his motorcycle. He never missed a morning at the men's only coffee hour at Florence's Cafe', gathering the day's news and keeping many of us up to date on the latest community happenings.
"Uncle Bud" was an unforgettable part of the fabric of Royal Palm as well as of our entire Treasure Cay community. "How ya doin', Hollywood!" will ring in many an ear, for many a year. His unfailing good humour, endless jokes and ability to make absolutely anyone laugh, will be the memories that swirl about us for as long as we can remember. As my next door neighbour for 22 of my 32 years in Treasure Cay, he never failed to brighten my morning as I stepped onto my patio and was greeted with a smile and a cheerful word. Our "Most Unforgettable Character" and loving friend will be sorely missed.
All who knew him here in Treasure Cay extend to our dear friend, Nan, wife to Bud for 54 years, our heartfelt sympathy and love and to all who survive him: daughter Martha, son Jimmy, twin brother Hank, and sister Ellie, and to all the family.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Cancer Research, 4301 Markham, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.
