BAROMETER BOB

Abaconians receive weather reports through Radio Abaco, the daily newspapers and (to a degree) The Weather Channel. Visiting yachtsmen have also enjoyed weather reports from Bob Toler of Man-O-War Cay and Bob has recently updated his service with a new weather station that sends information through CoconutTelegraphs to his website barometerbob.com. Now we can all get instant weather updates whenever we want them.

Bob’s weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro Plus and is situated near the northern end of Man-O-War Cay. The base unit is mounted on an antenna tripod and the anemometer on top of a nearby flag pole. Internet access is provided by a 2.4 mhz wireless connection from Marsh Harbour and the power by a car battery with a trickle charger and backup solar panel.

An addition feature to the website is an Axis 2100 mounted camera that sends live pictures to the internet. Your weather is not only described, you can see it. The camera points along the coast and out to the North Man-O-War Channel.

It is hoped that concerned citizens in other Abaco communities will install weather stations so a comprehensive coverage of the island can be obtained.
