Master of Ceremonies Nick Miaoulis introduced Fr Hugh Chapman to give the invocation and both RND President Brent Dean and Vice President Jerome Fitzgerald gave cogent, touching addresses outlining the progress of their company. The initials RND, said Fitzgerald, were the initials of the third partner in their cinema venture. Before the first movie was ever shown, Richard Nikita Demeritte was murdered in a random crime in Nassau. The remaining partners used his initials as a memorial to him. Prime Minister Ingraham praised the success of the two young men and pointed to their loving, supportive families as the backbone of their sјuccess. He also outlined measures his government was taking to ensure that many more young entrepreneurs would be able to follow in the footsteps of Dean and Fitzgerald. The government, he said, would underwrite 85% of loans for small companies with viable projects to the tune of $500,000 for tourism related businesses and $250,000 for other businesses. The cinema complex was blessed by Fr James Palacious and the opening ribbon (actually, and fittingly, a strip of movie projector film) was cut by the mothers of the principals, Allardyce Scott-Fitzgerald and Zelma Dean. The Prime Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque and the invited guests then enjoyed cocktails and a delicious buffet before re-seating to watch a movie: Ronin, starring Al Pacino.
