HOME DECORATING
by Barbara Farnan
Dear Barbara,
Fiinally, we are getting to redo our living room. My husband says I may make all the selections - provided they fit the budget. This sounded woderful at first, but now I'm becoming confused with so many choices. Any suggestions on getting started? Pamela Austin.
Dear Pamela,
Yes, there are a multitude of choices for home furnishings these days. The best way to get started is to find out what you like the most.
First, start yourself a notebook of decorating ideas that you like. Collect pictures from magazines of styles, furniture, colours, and ideas. Save fabric, paint, and wallpaper samples that appeal to you (be sure and note the company, pattern, and colour to reference later).
Copy pictures from books when you see something interesting. Visit model homes and take snapshots to include. Stroll through decorating and design studios as well as furniture stores.
Next, review your notes and see what continuing pattern is running though your choices. The majority of your selections should reflect the styles that are most comfortable and appealing to you. The incorporation of these ideas will reflect your personality, taste, and lifestyle.
