MURPHY TOWN HOMECOMING
by Opal Dawkins

Homecoming is a time of reunion when close family, relatives and friends come together to celebrate and make up for time spent apart. From 9th-12th October, Murphy Town Community Association held their 4th Annual Homecoming Celebration. Most of the activities were held at Murphy Town Park beside the Abaco Central High School. The four nights were filled with fun and enjoyed by many.

On the opening night there was a cultural show that was filled with laughter and unexpected excitement. On Sunday a church service was held at Zion Baptist in Murphy Town where the Rev Roland Swain addressed the company on what it was like back then in old Bluff Point and compared it to what we have now. That night there was a hand-clapping, foot-stomping grand gospel concert with presentations by local performers and visitors from Nassau who performed beautifully.

Monday was the sports day. In a soccer match, Pepsi beat Abacom 2-0 and went home champs. AJ the DJ kept everyone up and awake with live Bahamian music throughout the whole Homecoming celebration. The cooking was one hundred per cent native and natural. They went way, way back in time with native dishes. The festivities were declared a resounding success by all those who attended and participated. Everyone is now looking forward to next homecoming.
