ABACO FISH OFF

It's not nice to fool with the champion... The winner of the first Abaco Fish Off in 1997 was Hope Town's Maitland 'Bonefish Dundee' Lowe. He was surprised to be knocked off his perch last year by Sandy Point's Patrick Roberts. He came to the third Abaco Fish Off on 5th April determined to let everybody know who's the boss. A total of 47 points from 21 fish caught re-established Mr Lowe as Abaco's premier bonefish champ.

Conducted by the Ministry of Tourism, 294 bonefish were caught on fly rods in the allowed time by 13 contestants, all of them native Abaconians. The top five spots (with observer in brackets) and points/fish caught were:

1. Maitland Lowe (Howard Spillman) 47/21
2. Buddy Pinder (Morgan Turnquest) 37/35
3. Chistopher Pinder (Bob Sheffield) 35/33
4. Patrick Roberts (Crystal Dames) 34/22
5. Justin Sands (Jimmy Williams) 28/25

Maitland Lowe will represent Abaco in the Ministry of Tourism's National Fish Off in Andros.
