TRAUMA ONE
by The Response Team Members

Trauma One is the Abaco no fee emergency ambulance service. Located centrally in Marsh Harbour, Trauma One operates two ambulances with response teams of regulars and volunteer reserves. Ambulance facilities include immobilisation, extrication, first aid, life support apparatus and transport on a 24 hours per day 365 days per year basis.

Operations of the Trauma One ambulances are supported by contributions and donations. Financial support from organisations and individuals with both a capacity and a compassion for aiding their fellow man are needed to continue full service coverage.

Trauma One is activated by doctors, police, patients or responsible patient's representative. Physician of choice is at patient's or representative's discretion. If not specified, physician of choice is by the standing 'on call' schedule or nearest geographical medical medical facility. Trauma One defers to the selected medical authority for direction, treatment and mutual assistance. Medical authority dictates patient's disposition. Trauma One operates in support of recognised response teams and/or efforts.

Emergency responses are activated by radio or telephone call to central dispatch or pager call. Non-critical transports are arranged by appointment. In cases of clinic to airport evacuation by doctor's call, Trauma One provides comfortable, supportive transport. Air evacuation transports are operational in ten minutes to one hour from time of call, depending on the patient's location. This includes all airports on Abaco.

Trauma One teams have demonstrated that Trauma One is where needed when called. Trauma One is here to enhance the medical options and capabilities of resident physicians and clinics, to assist in and support the care of residents and visitors to Abaco.

Trauma One needs your support to continue. This is not a programme that can be paid for after needed. It is a programme that must be ready before needed. Financial support in advance of an event will provide the equipment and personnel able to respond and assist. Financial support is needed now to maintain the current level and expand the service. Help Trauma One to be ready to respond.

Remember, accidents are not planned. Natural disasters can affect any and all of us at any time. Ask yourself: "What value has my life or the life of my friends and family?" Cheques may be made payable to Trauma One. Your contribution will be recorded and acknowledged.
