SWEET MUSIC FOR ABACO CENTRAL HIGH
by Isobel Sherman

It started with a conversation that led to a friendship between US visitor George Riccio of Stuart, Florida, and Basil Beneby, a local Customs official. One thing led to another over the years and on 2nd April Mr Riccio presented ten brand new violins to the Music Department at Abaco Central High School.

The violins are Carlo Robelli's and seven are 1/4 while three are 3/4. They were purchased by Mr Riccio from Sam Ash Music Company in Miami. The Miami Symphony Orchestra gave advice to Mr Riccio on what type of violin to purchase. Mrs Nadeen Beneby, Senior Mistress at the school, asked Mr Riccio if he would make the donation and he graciously agreed.

Accompanying Mr Riccio to make the presentation was his brother, Bob Riccio, and his friend, Douglas Sampson. Both Bob Riccio and Douglas Sampson are frequent visitors to Abaco.
