COMMUNICATIONS ...

Dear Editor,

I just had to write and say, "Thanks to everyone who puts out the Abaco Journal!"

My family used to visit Mariners' Cove, back in the late 70's and early 80's. It was our family's favorite get-a-way. Back then, phones and TV's were scarce. It was rare that you saw a radio. I have fond memories of great buffets at the hotel, and evenings at the Crow's Nest! The starfish were as plentiful as the friendly people. That was 15 years ago.

Last year, my wife and I stayed in Mariners' Cove for 10 days. I couldn't wait to show her Abaco! We didn't even unpack first, as I couldn't wait to go stand in the corner of the marina and take it all in. A lot had changed, but it was still the place I remembered. It's now my wife's favorite vacation spot. We spent our days on the beach, or sightseeing and our nights at the Spinnaker and Tipsy Seagull. As I'm older now, we made good use of Miss Emily's! I was so happy to find that it was still the quiet, friendly place I remembered.

The Abaco Journal helps us keep in touch with what's happening around the island and we visit the web site frequently. We even had all of our vacation pictures put on disc, so we could use them as screen savers on our computers. I hope everyone living on Treasure Cay, treasures each moment in this "paradise" they have. We're looking forward to next year, when we can visit Abaco again. We had hoped to make it back this year, but my wife just found out "we're" pregnant and our money is going to redecorating this year.

Thanks again for everyone's efforts, and we'll be seeing you, Mariners' Cove, real soon!

Dear Sir,

As an Atlantan, of the state of Georgia in the US, I am a visitor of Abaco on occasion. To me, Abaco is presented to be under threat of industry and a dissolving youth - this according to your two letters to the editor presently posted on your Internet site. These letters concern me with respect to my interest in helping both Abaco and The Bahamas at large preserve their long standing integrity of its people and lands. However, because I am at a distance from the above mentioned areas, I am unable to provide support as effectively as locals do who are in The Bahamas today. In fact, I am unable to learn of the full scope of the arguments presented by concerned parties. My question: How can I, as a mere visitor of Abaco, learn more about, and provide support to, the residents and citizens of The Bahamas who are working hard to preserve the excellence of their country?
