RADIO ABACO NEWS
We're On Cable! As of 4th February twenty-four hour Radio Abaco service has been available at Channel 5 on Cable Bahamas TV transmission from Sandy Point to Crown Haven. After several months of negotiation the deal was agreed to and Radio Abaco made upgrades to allow everyone with Cable Bahamas to receive Radio Abaco without even tuning in the dial.
Mud Fire: Early on the morning of 4th February a house caught fire in The Mud Haitian community which required all units of the Marsh Harbour Volunteer Fire Department to contain the blaze. The Department was successful and no-one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
US Ambassador Visits: His Excellency Richard Blankenship, US Ambassador to The Bahamas, toured Hope Town on 13th February on a private visit to meet with US and Bahamian citizens who came from as far away as Green Turtle Cay.
Police Move: The Royal Bahamas Police Force conducted a surprise inspection of the Haitian communities of The Mud and Pigeon Pea early on the morning of 15th February. 19 policemen were involved to search for shops operating without a licence, weapons and drugs, plus to assist the Department of Immigration in identifying illegal immigrants.
