Death on the Highway: A woman was killed and two men seriously injured in a head-on accident between a car and a van on the S C Bootle Highway near the Green Turtle ferry dock at about 7 pm on 20th May. The woman, Stacey Hancock, 31, was the passenger in a self drive car driven by her companion Karlos Raba, both of Cross City, Florida. She died at the scene. The driver of the van, a church vehicle, was Pastor Ed Laroda of Unity Baptist Church, Treasure Cay, who was thrown through the windscreen. Both men were airlifted to Nassau and Mr Raba was later transferred to a hospital in Florida. This was Abaco's first traffic fatality of the year. It was, apparently, the couple's first day of their intended vacation on Abaco.

Holy Smoke! Midway through the 30th May evening service at RMF Church in Dundas Town, Wayde Archer interrupted the service to let Pastor Lennie Etienne and his congregation know that a building attached to the church used as a child care centre was on fire. The Abaco Volunteer Fire department was called and tourists joined locals in removing pews and instruments from the church as the fire encroached. During the dousing of the fire, one of the fire trucks ran backwards and hit a parked truck, forcing people to jump aside. Next day, a Radio Abaco discussion on the air about the many fires in the Dundas Town and Murphy Town district brought in pledges totalling over $20,800 for a fire engine in the immediate area. They included a pledge of $5,000 from Bea Shirley and another $5,000 from Pine Woods Nursery and Zig Zag Airlines.

Casuarina Stabbing: A man, Dwight Turnquest, 26, was stabbed during an altercation in the early hours of the morning of 29th May in Casuarina Point. The domestic turmoil involved Mr Turnquest, another man and a young lady. Mr Turnquest was taken to Nassau for treatment and returned a week later with protective body bracing.

Bicycle Accident: Check-out boy and Grade 7 student Owens Altidor rode his bicycle out of Golden Harvest parking lot at about 10.30 on the morning of 12th June and was struck by a truck. Trauma One took him to the Government Clinic where he was sent on to Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, suffering from head injuries. Latest reports say he is in stable condition.
