SCUBA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
Huel Moss
Six Grade 10 students from Abaco Central High School will soon increase the number of certified scuba divers on Abaco. These students make up the latest session of the Scuba Scholarship programme developed through the Every Child Counts programme and Kay Politano, now of Abaco Dive Adventures.
This is the fourth set of students Kay has worked with. Some of her certified students have gone on to find employment at Dolphin Encounters, Atlantis Water Features and the Defence Force. All the present class are Marine Biology students and they embrace the opportunity to acquire scuba skills, which will greatly enhance their post high school employment prospects.
Kay would love to see some of the students qualify to become dive masters and instructors. This would help reduce the number of foreigners that have to be brought in the fill these positions.
