TC MARINA DREDGES CHANNEL

Treasure Cay Hotel Resort and Marina began work on its marina dredging programme early in April. The Bahamas Marine commenced the dredge using a large barge with a torpedo punch and dredge line. Initially a test area of 60 feet by 60 feet was punched out with a 6 1/2 ton steel torpedo. The torpedo was hoisted some 50 feet in the air and allowed the free fall into the rock on the bottom. Loosened rock was removed and deposited onshore past the seawall. On completion of the test the area was inspected for high spots to determine the effectiveness of the procedure.

To date the dredge has been completed on some 600 feet, from the marina towards the fuel station. An extension of the dredged area is expected to reach past the channel entrance sign. The plan is to return in June after the 18th Annual Treasure Cay International Billfish Tournament, to finish pr are completed the controlling depth will be five feet; however, the new expected depth of the channel will be six feet at low mean tide.

In response to increased activity in the channel, Texaco fuel station has arranged for their tanker to moor near the seawall just before the fuel dock. This move will free up the full length of the dock and enable several boats to re-fuel at the same time. Strategically located, Treasure Cay Marina is positioned in a well-protected environment. With 150 functional slips, the marina is able to accommodate the most discriminating boater.
