SCIENCE FAIR
A Science Fair for primary schools was held on
30th November 2000 at the Central Abaco Primary School in Dundas Town. The fair
attracted entries from nine schools and was sponsored by the Ministry of Health.
In attendance were Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, Minister of Health Ronald
Knowles, US Senator Tom Harkin and Beverly Taylor, Assistant Director Ministry
of Education.
While opening the fair by cutting a ribbon leading to the
classrooms containing the exhibits, the Prime Minister noted that a science
laboratory should have been built for the school from the start. He said he
would look into that right away. He also noted that the lack of landscaping was
a matter of concern.
The judges for the competition were Hugh Cottis,
Catherine Knowles, Kathleen Ralph and Greta Culmer. First place went to Hope
Town School for their displays on beach trash collection, posters depicting the
life cycle of the loggerhead turtle, and the flora and fauna of mangrove
communities. Second place went to Central Abaco Primary School and third place
to Forest Heights Academy
