VILLA VIGNETTES
by Ellen Bird
Hello everyone, welome to the fall and winter season in Paradise!
It is good to report that our parking lots are all paved and sanded and seem to be well done and it is a nice improvement. We have new pool and deck furniture and the observation deck has been extended by twelve feet. The latter has become a popular place to view the gorgeous beach, the mantas, and the stars. It has also been a beautiful setting for weddings and receptions, so has been a pleasant adjunct to our Villa area.
Many Villa owners have been down to Treasure Cay to kick off the season. I will name as many as I can think of who have been, are presently or are coming shortly. As usual, Harriet and Randall Cognetta came to spruce up their three villas, also Charlie Lombard has been and gone. Jim and Gretchen Balch were here for ten days and now have gone home until March. Susan Roth was here for three weeks although George was only able to manage one week. I hope they fed the orchids and the birds so started them coming around to provide lots of flowers and hummers. It was great to hear that Marnie had at least deserted Barbados for a short while and that she and Wilma had arrived to be followed by Alex and Colin. We miss the Pathys and hope they don't get too wedded to farther south although I know Barbados is a pretty winning place. Kamps and Bobbie Slaff are here at present and also Max Minkhorst will be arriving for a short visit. The latter will be alone as Margaret is having problems with angina. This we are sorry to hear and hope it gets corrected before long. Dewey and Bea have been visiting for a month and I'm sorry I may miss them. I have a very fellow feeling for them as they fell in love with the villa area just as did we and have been working at improving and enjoying their villa whenever they can manage it ever since.
Betsey and Ben Pfeiffer, Dean and Peg Mcgrath, Norma and Milt Fehrenbach, Harold and Marj Chance, also Richard and Ruth Burczek are all present and accounted for which means the season has really started. Elmer and Doris Leeker are here working on their second villa, Kirtlands were here and Jim and Ernie Feeney are checking out plane charters to arrive with quite a few of their family. I hope I get there to meet them. Bob Bird gave me quite a scare in a bushland camp in Zululand in South Africa by having a stroke on his left side but is making good progress and will be there to help me whip my jungle into shape. I hear that the pool area planting is looking a bit like a jungle too but it is much more beautiful. Peter Maase is due back any time soon too so our area is really perking along and its great to know so many are fine and enjoying.
Rumours are still rife about the sale of Treasure Cay property and generous
offers have been made to owners just outside the perimeters of the gate
and although like many we hope Treasure Cay doesn't change too much it
would be really rather nice if the area were relieved from a state of limbo.
