NATIONAL NOTES
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham attended the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, which was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II on 26th October. Accompanying the Prime Minister were Foreign Affairs Minister Janet Bostwick, Public Works Minister Tommy Turnquest, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Arthur Foulkes and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The theme for this year's meeting was "Trade, Investment and Development: the Road to Commonwealth Prosperity." The delegation returned on 31st October.
Winners of the Commonwealth Short Story Competition were announced
at a press conference on 26th October in Edinburgh. For the first time
ever there were two Bahamians among the 26 winners: Mr Graham Thordarson
of Nassau and Jack Hardy of Murphy Town, Abaco.
