OK so it took me a week to actually sign back on to the message board. I left the office thinking everything was in great shape but upon return, I had to work six fifteen hour days to make up for the ten days I was in the Abacos...Never mind my sob story...on with the trip report... We arrived in Marsh Harbor from Los Angeles (after a 20 hour flight because of delays and bad weather in Dallas and the Midwest) to a cold beer at the Conch Inn. Took the ferry over to Guana Cay where we were staying or ten great days. No cell phone, no pager, no email, no stock quotes, nothing. Oh we could have got them if we wished but for me this was a way to get away from everything. We stayed at the Orange Blossom on Guana Cay with Vince and Cheryl. Even though we have never met, they treated us like family. I can't say enough good things about them. Not only did they spend the time to take us out fishing (twice) they cooked us a fantastic fish dinner! While we were there, we rented their boat and visited a bunch of the other Cays. I personally enjoyed spending time out in the Sea of Abaco, beautiful clear water and very good conditions for snorkeling and swimming. If you have a chance be sure not to miss Nippers on Sunday. Don't think you have to get the pork roast (although I would recommend it) all of the food at Nippers is good. I ate there more than once and all of the food was good. The service was good also. I keep talking about Guana Cay because that is where we spent most of our time but I also enjoyed Yahoo's on Lubbers Cay, Hope Town, Treasure Cay, Man O War and a couple of the other Cays. Every year my wife and I take a vacation to a new place. I have been to almost every island in the Carribean and some in the south Pacific. A few observations about the Abaco's compared to others: 1. There is not the constant hounding of you to buy things. The Bahimians do not constantly badger you to buy something. The people are extremely friendly and are very helpful. 2. The food (although expensive) is good. I did not worry about getting sick and found good food at most locations. The last thing I want to comment on is the cleanup from the hurricane (floyd). Although you can definately see the remnants of the hurricane, the islands look good. Those who saw them before may disagree, but I thought they have done a great job of cleaning the islands up. It seem to me most people take a great deal of pride in the look of the islands and they are still in cleanup mode as I write this. So let me close by saying we enjoyed ourselves tremendously while in the Abacos. I normally do not return to one of these places once I have visited because there are so many places in the world to explore but I am definately going back to the Abacos. There are a lot of Cays I didn't see and because of the hospitality (thanks again Vince and Cherly) I would recommend the Abacos to all of my friends. Thank you to all of the Bahamians and to all of the nice people we met on the trip. Dave and Julie (the West Coasters)
