After only a few days on the island my husband said that he doesn't need to go anywhere else on vacation. A special thanks to all on the message board for making our trip a lot easier and the the beautiful Abaco islanders for making our trip memorable. Sorry for the LONG TRIP REPORT!!! LOVED OUR TRIP!!!! WED: Arrived on time with luggage with in hand. First stop on the way to Treasure Cay Resort and Marina was the Highway Liquor Store. Taxi driver had no problem stopping and my husband picked up a case of Kalik Beer, Rum and Coke. We later found out that $42.00 dollars for the beer was about $10.00 too much. On to Treasure Cay--Checked into our marina front room and were very happy to have arrived with our luggage as we ran into others who were not so lucky. Three days later they still didn't have it yet. Bring as much in your carry on as possible to last you a few days. Kicked off our shoes and went to the beach--Five minute walk across the street. I have never seen such Turquoise Blue waters in all my travels in the Caribbean. Walked up and down the beach and then enjoyed a drink at the Coco's Bar ($11.50 for two drinks so we drank slowley). Went back to our room had a few of our own drinks and walked around the Resort. Picked up a meat patty at Florence's Cafe-Spicy and SOOOO Good! Didn't care much for the prices at Spinaker's ($16.50 for Pasta, $20.00 for Conch but we heard the food was excellent)so we walked over to the free shuttle van service and went to "A Touch of Class". Dinner was great--Cracked Conch $12.00, Grouper $14.00 and they served complementary conch fritters and bread before dinner. Lights out early because we are early risers. Thurs: Breakfast in room with food we brought with us enjoying the view of the marina. I think we were up at about 6:00 am every morning which, I know is not for everyone. Walked over to the beach to watch the sun come up. At 9:00 o'clock we started out to hitch a ride to the Green Turtle Ferry Boat--(Didn't want to pay another taxi fare). My husband mentioned that I have watched way too much of the travel channel however, he didn't go back to get a taxi. I stuck out my thumb and the first person to pass pulled over--he was only going up the road a mile so we decided to wait for another ride. The very next car to go by pulled over and a women and her child gave us a ride to her sister's house down the road. We then waited about five minutes for her sister and aunt to get ready and we were off on our way to the Ferry Boat. They dropped us off at the ferry boat and we gave them $5.00 dollars for gas, which they protested about but finally took. I told my husband we would make it and we did, as well as, meeting some great people on the way. I would not advise doing this in Freeport or Naussa. We were way too early for the boat but waited an hour and enjoyed watching others pack their boats with supplies to go over to Turtle. Arrived at White Sound-($13.00 Roundtrip-Green Turtle Club) after dropping everyone else downtown. Found our way to the Oceanside Beach--Five minute walk down a beautiful sandy pathway. When we rounded the last hill and saw ocean ahead we could not believe our eyes--The beauty was unbelievable. We were the only ones on the beach and we snorkeled out to the reef which was a bit challenging. I would not recommend this spot to weak swimmers because of the strong currents. Nice reef but we didn't see as many fish as we would have liked to have seen. Had a nice lunch which we brought with us and enjoyed the view. Went back to Turtel Club and walked around and then off to Coco Bay since we had some time to kill before our trip back. Back off the Ferry Boat and were surrounded by taxi drivers but decided to go back the same way we came. Proceeded to the main road and decided to walk a bit before hitching a ride however, a car pulled over anyway and we squeezed into the back seat with a women and her two sons. They took us to the main road to TC and we gave them $5.00-same as above they didn't want to take the money but, we made them. Got another ride from a young couple that lived right on the TC property and they would not accept money for gas. Dinner at the Island Boil--Free Shuttle Service (Tip the Driver) Dinner was good however, I liked the Touch of Class a bit better. Fri: We have a car for two day--Off to Marsh Harbour--Picked up the first person we saw on the roadway and gave him a ride to a construction site about five miles down the road. I think he was more then surprised that we stopped and gave him a ride and said as he exited the car "God Bless You" We were more than happy to return the favor to as many people as we could over the next few days. It was nice to talk to some locals and help out at the same time--after all it is their island that so many tourist come to enjoy. Explored all around Marsh Harbour and went to Mermaids Reef to snorkel. Easy snorkeling spot with lots of friendly fish. Lunch on the beach--Continued down the road towards Little Horbour-- went towards snake cay--not much to see and a drit road all the way to the end. Made it to Pet's Pub in a car with all the tires still in tack. We had one drink and took in the sights which were worth the dirve but next time we will come by boat. Back to the main road and on to Cherokee which was interesting. Decided we didn't want to drive anymore so we took off for Treasure Cay. Dinner at Hudsons Delight which is only about a 1/4 mile down the road from the Touch of Class towards Marsh Harbour. Loved the Food and the place and you can bring you own drinks which was a refreshing change. SAT: Off to Marsh Harbour to catch the 9:00am ferry boat to Hope Town($12.00)roundtrip. Walked all over Hope Town--what a beautiful place--Parked ourselves in front of the Hope Town Harbour Lodge's beach and went snorkeling. Beach is beautiful but not as many fish as Mermaids Reef. Lunch on the beach and then we went walked around town and had some conch fritters at the Harbour's Edge while waiting for the ferry boat--Best Conch Fritters so Far!! Back to March Harbour looked around and then back towards TCand on to the Blue Hole. Fire all around us but we were determined to find it. All dirt roads and no signs but at last, we found it. Kind of spooky looking with all the smoldering woods around us. Next time maybe we will venture in. Bought some things at Florence's cafe and had a nice dinner in our room. SUN: Goodbye Car!! Have not spent anytime on our beach in Treasure Cay so we spent the day relaxing. Dinner at A Touch of Class--Great!! MON: Sunrise at the beach--Lunch at the beach--Back home to Clearwater, Florida --We will be back next year to explore Great Guana, Man-O-War and much more. THANKS TO ALL!!! PRICES--For First Time Visitors: Taxi Fare from Airport to TC-$14.00(2-People)Beer-($32.00 case) Coke-($3.75-MH $4.50-TC 6-pk) Tripical Drinks $5.75, Beer$4.50, Dinner at TC Hotel ($16.50-30.00 per person for dinner only-Good Food) At Touch of Class, Hudsons Delight and Island Boil dinners range between $10.00-& up and you can have a great dinner for two for under $40.00 with tip but without drinks. Marsh Harbour has lots of restaurant to choose from with same prices as above. I think Kosey's or Cosey's, not sure of the name, but it is located across from Barclays Bank near (the only stop light in town) has good island food and great prices. Expect to pay more for food in stores, lettuce $2.50, crackers $3.25 and so on. Hope this helps someone.
