Have winds been unusual since Floyd?

We were last in Abaco in Nov. after Floyd, and winds were very heavy. There were next to NO boats out, and boaters were kept in FL for weeks, waiting for a window in which to cross. The surf on Guana ws really rough, and sand was stirred up in snorkle areas. I've noticed many posts since Nov. that mention winds heavier than usual, including some very recent. Any ideas as to why? By now, things are normally calmer.
