The fires were raging from 4/25 to 4/27. From the Guana Beach Village Resort, the night sky over and around the airport was lit up, even though we were 10 miles away across the Sea of Abaco. The smell of burnt forest was heavy in our room for a couple of nights at the Guana Seaside Resort. Fires started way south of Abaco as well. Several of the Guana locals told me that Wild Boar hunters started these fires on purpose, then they shoot the boars as they flee from the fires. I hope this isn't so, since it's environmentally unsound: killing many other species of plant and animal life, ruining the food source which wild boars thrive upon, etc. Anyhow, that's what Guana locals said.
