If you had asked this question 32 years ago I would tell you not to think tice about it. Tampa was THEN a heavenly place. Since then Tampa and Hillsborough County have all the problems of a big city although it is only a small city.
Most of city fathers, County Commissioners are thoroughly corrupt. Projects are committed to taxpayer repayment without taxpayer approval. Crime is terrible. Water is permanently rationed as the powers that be continue to approve housing developments without having the resources to support them. If you are a homeowner in Hillsborough County you are allowed 7000 gallons of water a month for your use in bathing, clothes washing, dishes, and garden watering. Over 7000 gallons and there is a HEFTY surcharge. There is no relief in sight and it will only be worse. Traffic is absolutely horrible and if you are working in downtown, Westshore, or Brandon allow 45-60 minutes each way to work, even though you may only have 15 miles to drive. Every road is torn up and again no relief is in sight. The roads are too, too small for the permits that have been issued to build.
Remember I am only talking about the City of Tampa AND Hillsborough County. There is a post about Clearwater and St. Pete which are significantly better but some of Tampa's problems are also evident there too. I would not recommend Tampa to my worst enemy, and I am looking forward to moving to Pasco County or out of state if possible. The days of Florida being a cheap and good place to live are over. Too much unplanned development has managed to ruin what was once a truly lovely paradise. Yes, I will agree with you on one thing, and only one thing, Tampa does have maybe the best airport in the U.S. But the airport does not a town make. I probably should have sent this direct to you and not cluttered up the board but I have already typed to much. My apologies to everybody, I will think better next time.
