I'll try to summarize each day but I find myself drifting back to the warm water, warm breezes, and the beautiful beaches and tend to ramble on..... We arrived at the airport in Marsh Harbour on April 16th. Small airport but very easy to figure out what to do. We showed the custom agent our paperwork and quickly passed through a door to grab our luggage off the luggage wagon. Was asked if we had anything to declare and we were out the door. A very pleasant young man was loading our luggage in a waiting cab and we were off in no time. Our first reaction was "they drive on the wrong side of the road here". That did take getting use to and we laughed many times especially as they go around a rotary to the left. We unloaded at the condo and went to the pool for a swim. We first met "junkman" at the pool who warned us about the resident pig who thinks he is a dog. (During the hurricane the pig was separated from it's mother and it was raised by dogs.) Thank goodness he warned us because it wasn't long and the pig was at my husbands feet, licking and nipping at his toes. (The pig was a novelty at first but was a pest, his name was Oink but we re-named him "Barbie - Q") We left the pig and walked across the road to the Conch Inn for dinner. The sun was warm, the marina was beautiful and the staff very friendly. An island band was setting up and we asked when they would be starting...."when they be ready" was the answer...yes we were on island time. The food was very good although for some reason we waited two hours for our meal....I believe this was long even on island time. April 17th we walked over to Boat Harbour at Abaco Beach Resort and had a lovely breakfast. The room is all windows over looking the marina, big fans keep the tropical breeze circulating throughout....the hustle and bustle of the "states" was draining quickly. We walked out to Rental Wheels and rented an old convertible. We laughed as I kept reminding my husband to...."stay on the left!"......we drove up to Treasure Cay.....you really need a map because if there are road signs they are hard to find.....we parked our car and walked over a small knoll and gazed at the beach.....none of us could say a thing.....we were told it was rated one of the top 5 most beautiful beachs in the world (after seeing many of the beaches on the islands, we think all 10 top beaches are in the Abacos)....the mixture of color was beautiful.....blue sky, blue/green water, white fine sand beach, and the green palm trees.....any residual tension from the "states" was instantly gone. We swam and beached it for a while. We drove over to the marina and had a drink at the Tippsy Seagull and had a great dinner next door. We drove back to the condo and were visiting with the nice couple in the condo next to us. We discovered that he also used this message board and his board name is "Junkman". My husband came out of our condo with a report we had printed off this board at home from nonother than the "Junkman". It truly is a small world. The Junkman has been going to Abaco Towns for 14 years and gave us great ideas for the rest of our week. We rented a boat from Rainbow Rentals for the next three days. Make sure you reserve you boat ahead of time. The whole fleet of boats were booked. For the next three days we were on the water going from one island to another. Our first day with the boat we went to Hope Town, called and got a ride up to Abaco Inn. This is when we realized that it would be hard to choose our favorite beach. They have a salt water pool with the Atlantic waves crashing on one side and the quieter Abaco Sea on the other. We body surfed in the big waves, swam in the pool and had a great lunch and drinks. We stopped at Tahiti Beach, another beautiful beach.....now which beach is our favorite???? We snorkeled around the point of the beach and found a small reef. Beautiful fish everywhere. One day we went over to Sandy Cay and snorkeled the reef, stopped at Pete's, body surfed on the Ocean side...again which beach do we like the best??? The next day we head over to Great Guana and up to Nippers.....We found it...we all agreed that this was our favorite beach....the waves were huge and the family loved the body surfing......we had a great lunch at Nippers and headed back to the boat...there was another rental boat that was a bit high on the sand after the tide had gone out...my family and I jumped in, another family jumped in and we had a great time working together to help this family out....we did it...we got them off the sand and on their way.....come to find out the other family who stopped to help live about 60 miles from us here in Maine. We hated to bring the boat back but our three boat days were up. The next day was spent just relaxing and walking around Marsh Harbour (everything was closed because of Good Friday). The next day we were packing, my husband trying to figure out how he could stay forever. This was the perfect vacation for our family. We can't imagin another vacation coming close to this one except when we go back to Abaco. Feel free to e-mail with any questions. Crystal
