Just returned from a cruising trip - this time to Green Turtle Cay after a few days in Marsh Harbour and then on to Elbow Cay. Stayed at Black Sound Marina in GTC and rented a golf cart to drive around the island. Good eating at Laura's Kitchen and McIntosh Restaurant in New Plymouth and Bluff House for Valentine's dinner. All the restaurants were sold out that night. Bluff House looks really great with a new large deck. Molly and the staff are doing their usual great job. They have plans to build a nice marina there. We had to take the golf cart there from Black Sound because of the strong winds that night. No way I (Jean)was taking the dinghy! Green Turle Club is rebuilding their docks, but the restaurant, bar, and resort are up and running and looking
good. Gene went scuba diving with Brendal and to Nipper's on Guana for the pig roast. The water was crystal clear, but a little too cold (69) for my blood. Whale Cay was flat as a pancake going around on Feb 12 and very easy on the 16th in spite of a pretty good breeze when we went to Sea Spray Marina in White
Sound on Elbow Cay. Owner, Monty Albury, is back at work and recovering nicely from his near-death experience last month. He looks great and says Ruth is ready to get past the sympathy-giving stage. We were simply amazed at the amount of work that has been done in White Sound in the 2 months since we were
last there. They are busy reclaiming the dunes between Abaco Inn and Sea Spray, the Abaco Inn is open and looks wonderful - the food and view terrific, they are trying to fortify the road just north of the Abaco Inn and it is still passable in single file. We rented a golf cart here for transport and the wind was blowing like crazy again. Hope Town Harbour Lodge has the dining room open for 3 meals a day now and work is progressing on the rest of the property - pool not open. Bought our tickets to the Hope Town Firefighter's Benefit Dance from Tito of Froggie's. It was last Friday night at the Club Soleil with music by Stone McEwen and food and drinks provided by Club Soleil. It was a great party and very well-attended. Cruiser's Net on VHF 68 every morning at 8:15 is still providing wonderful information for cruisers on sea conditions and for everyone on restaurants and special events around the Abacos. They provide a great service to all visitors and business owners. We had to catch the plane back on Saturday so missed the big Man-O-War Fair that morning. Oh, in Marsh Harbour Mangoe's is doing a lot of work on the restaurant, kitchen, and shop. Conch Inn Marina and Marsh Harbour Marina were packed with the winter visitors. The Jib Room should be opening soon - they have the roof on. Tiki Hut is afloat but needs a lot of work. Boat Harbour and Abaco Towns are still rebuilding and look to be on target for anounced opening dates. I am sure I have forgotten some news so if you have any questions please e-mail us by clicking on the above address (Eugenejean@aol.com).
