One of the problems with Gorda Cay is that after Disney bought,
they leveled the island, brought in their own sand (the
native sand wasn't fine enough), tore out a reef and replaced
it with a manufactured reef, put out protective netting to
keep sharks away, fogged nightly for insects, and basically raped
the entire ecosystem of this island. It can hardly be considered
a Bahamian island any longer. I would like to think that it has provided jobs for the Bahamian
people and increased thier opportunity to thrive, but my feeling
is that this never was a concern for the Disney Corp.
